Join NSC in the Cupertino Foothills as we hike through the Picchetti Ranch Open Space Preserve. Our destination is the Picchetti Winery where we will stop for lunch and (optionally) wine tasting at the Winery. The hike has a light/moderate degree of difficulty and will take about an hour to reach the Winery and picnic tables. We’ll extend the hike this year via the Orchard Loop trail.

What to Bring: Bring a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, backpack, lunch, snacks, and water. You should wear sturdy (hiking) shoes and layered clothing.

Directions: From San Francisco, take Freeway 280 to the Foothill/Grant Road exit in Cupertino. Turn right and travel Southwest on Foothill Blvd. 3.2 miles towards the Montebello Road intersection (Foothill Blvd. changes names mid-point to Stevens Canyon Road). You'll travel through a residential section; pass Stevens Creek County Park, Stevens Creek Reservoir and Dam. Continue on Stevens Canyon Road past Montebello Road another 1.5 miles South to the free parking lots located in Stevens Creek County Park. There is the Sycamore picnic area and free parking lot on the left side before crossing Mt. Eden Road, and the Canyon picnic and parking lot on the left side just past Mt. Eden Road. (See the map here. The parking lots are identified near the bottom right corner of the map). There is additional parking at the Cooley picnic area across the road from the Canyon picnic area (you will need to drive across the road to reach parking there).

Where to Meet: We will meet at the Canyon picnic and parking area along Stevens Canyon Road just past Mt. Eden Rd (this is the picnic area with the White building restrooms). We’ll walk across the road towards Camp Costranoan and hike the Creek Trail from the Cooley picnic area and take the Zinfandel Trail to the Winery.

Information

Join us for a scenic, flat ride starting in San Jose at the Coyote Creek multi-use trail following the longest creek in Santa Clara County as it flows from Anderson Dam to Hellyer Park. Along the way we’ll past Coyote Ranch, a historic ranch surrounded by palm and giant pepper trees. Further on, the trail passes the Santa Clara County Model Airplane Skypark, where (if we’re lucky) we’ll see an air show of fast, agile planes doing showy aerobatics. After passing under Hwy 101, we cross Coyote Creek on a wide bridge, run through an old orchard, and end in the middle of a subdivision. From there, we’ll follow city streets to the Anderson Lake County Pk. where we stop for lunch. In the afternoon, we return the same way to Hellyer Park for a round trip of about 32.5 miles.

What to bring: All riders MUST wear a helmet and should carry a pump. Bikes should be in good condition. Bring a water bottle, spare inner tube, patch kit, sunscreen, and snacks to share (optional). Due to unpredictable weather, a light jacket is suggested for cool weather conditions.

Directions and Information: We will send information in separate email.

Help needed: Group leaders and flat-fixers needed in case we split up into multiple groups.

No SAG Support but we will be equipped for flats and minor repairs.
