huddartThe weather was perfect for the October 17 hike at Huddart County Park near Woodside.  Located just minutes from Hwy 280, the park offers many recreational options including an archery range, a children’s playground, picnicking, barbequeing, summer overnight camping, and miles of hiking trails.

Eight energetic hikers met at the Zwierlein picnic area to begin a loop hike.  Brian Chan, Sarah Lee, Janet Gee, Rod Ngai, Nancy Lee, and Maurie Carron came from the South Bay while Debbie Fong and Joel Hayashida made their way from the East Bay.

From Zwierlein, the hike proceeded along the Dean Trail and then connected with the Crystal Springs Trail.  Along the way, towering oaks and redwoods made for a mostly shady hike.  At a small bridge, a small trickle of water flowed beneath -  no doubt a remnant from the huge storm that pounded the Bay Area five days earlier.  The same storm also knocked out part of the Crystal Springs Trail, and as a result, forced a detour along the Campground Trail to get back to the start.

After the hike, most of the group met for lunch at Casita Chilanga, a hole-in-the wall restaurant in Redwood City.  Known for tasty and hearty Mexican tortas (sandwiches), the restaurant did not disappoint.  Lunch there was a fine way to replenish calories and relax a bit before going our separate ways.  Special thanks to Hoyt Nelson, who organized the hike but was unable to attend.
