The initial signup deadline for the NSC 2010 Whistler trip has passed but we still have a few openings.  As we have 4 bedroom condos, now I must take signups in multiples of four attendees.  We have met our minimum trip quota and now I will cut off the final headcount at a multiple of four.  So if you have been sitting on the fence on this trip, please sign up immediately or you may miss the boat!

This month, I will give a brief orientation of the mountain.  The best place to start is the trail map (LINK1).  The Whistler-Blackcomb resort is actually two mountains that has Whistler Village (LINK2) at the base in between the two mountains.  The Upper Village is located at the base of Blackcomb while we will be staying at the Legends property at Creekside which is at the base of Whistler (LINK3).  The two mountains are connected mid-mountain via the Peak-To-Peak Gondola (LINK8).

The best link for investigating Whistler-Blackcomb skiing is found on LINK4.  Also, for you snowboarders, LINK5 is a great summary.

You can track the resort snowfall at LINK6.  So far, you can see that there has already been snow on Whistler mountain due to the first major snow storm of the season on September 29, 2009.  You can hit LINK7 for a webcam page.  As the snow prospects look promising in the California Sierras as of today (10/1/109), due to snow in Tahoe already, as Whistler is experiencing early snow, we should have a conditions during our trip.  Also, since we will be at Whistler a mere two weeks from the start of the 2010 Winter Olympics Games, it will be certain the there will be plenty of snowmaking coverage even if the promising start we have witnessed peters out.

The resort has a great webpage for all of the possible winter activities besides snow riding (LINK10).  I am personally considering taking a zipline tour during my day six off day (LINK11), which includes a 2200’ zipline run!

As far as après ski is concerned, there are four big hotspots at the resorts (LINK12).  Our condo property is located right next to one hotspot called Dusty’s  so we won’t have to go into town for a pub crawl!

For nightlife, LINK13 summarizes the hotspots for dancing and music.  As you can see from LINK13, there are more then enough club spots within easy reach.

Finally, for those of you that wish to see what the Olympics will bring in store for Whistler, check out LINK14.
