For Peg and I, joining the Nisei Ski Club (NSC) was one of the smartest decisions we’ve made in a while.  We joined because we enjoy skiing and we knew the NSC would be adventuring to a resort that would be hosting the Winter Olympics.  Some gentle nudging from my brother-in-law also played into our decision!

The trip to Whistler wasn’t just a skiing venture it was more like a winter vacation with the added excitement of preparation for the Olympics and skiing was only a sidelight to the great people we met and the fun dining events that were meticulously planned.  We felt as though the NSC were treated as VIP guests by the lodge, probably because of the influence and professionalism the club presents. It is run with precise detail.

Our syllabus for the trip included such details as travel information, lodging details, restaurants, shopping guides, events for the club during the week and even bus schedules for the Whistler resort.  After arriving at the Creekside Lodge and noticing the perfect location of the gondola out the back door we were able to meet the members in Condo#1 with pizza and beer.

The next day was the start of business…SKIING…5 days of it!  The setting could not have been more impressive and full of beauty.  The runs were full of diversity.  How about skiing on top of a glacier and going down the longest intermediate run in North America…7 miles!  We really got to personally know all the venues called on TV during the Olympics, Creekside, Whistler, Blackcomb, Squamish, Dave Murray downhill (men’s downhill). Franz’s run (women’s downhill) and the Inukshuk, the Olympic symbol.  Between skiing we managed to get our mangled bodies into the hotubs and out to Whistler village for great shopping and dining and another night at Condo #1 for a potluck luau.  Wow, we all made use of our condo kitchens.  The NSC can really cook and party!

I can go on and on about the trip but I am limited to just a one page article.  I don’t know how this trip can be topped by the NSC but I did hear mention of trips to Aspen and Mammoth.  Sign us up!  Thanks to the NSC!

Sincerely, Dave & Peggy Hori
