They say time flies when you’re having fun.  Well, it’s been a quick NSC season and I’d like to thank the hard working volunteers, especially the officers and board members of this NSC year.

When I became president this past year, my main goal was to reduce the losses from the weekend bus trips.  Last year we lost $3,562.51 on weekend bus trips and $500 on a lost deposit for our cancelled trip to Mount Bachelor.

This year, we lost a total of $1050 on our weekend bus trips.  This included the $20 discount that we gave members for their first weekend bus trip which cost the club $800.  In an effort to fill our buses, gain new members, and reduce losses, we had a $40 discount for new-first-time-non-member bus riders (newbie incentive).  This discount only cost the club $250.  $1050 – $800 = $250.

Trip #2 was canceled because we only had 2 signups.

A number of people taking advantage of our newbie incentive have joined as members and returned for additional bus trips and a number have volunteered for Nikkei Matsuri and the Mountain View Obon.  Veteran NSCers know that our bus trips are fun, well organized, and smoothly run.  And I’m glad that the new people who have decided to try us feel the same.

Elections are coming up.  Alice was really busy with Nikkei Matsuri and we didn’t have time to drum up volunteers for the board.   This past year we had 5 ex-presidents on the board.  We have been playing musical chairs in different board positions for a number of years.  This year a fair number of our hard working board members decided to take a well deserved time off.

We’ll be sending out an electronic ballot for those with an email address very soon.  The number of nominees are sparse.  If you would like  to volunteer for the board, you are welcome to write your own name in.

After the elections, we’ll have our post-season/thank you event.

Stay tuned,
Morgan Hua
2010-2011 NSC President
