With Thanksgiving just around the corner, let me take this opportunity to give the NSC Board’s best wishes to all members and friends for a great holiday. This has been a challenging year, but we see start of a recovery. While many of us are affected by the Great Recession of 2009, the NSC hopes we can find thanks for the blessings that surround us and prospects for an even better coming year.
You may notice something new on our Whistler and Mt Bachelor flyers. For example, on the Whistler flyer, you will find “CST 2098431-40” on the last line. This indicates that NSC is officially registered as a “California Seller of Travel.” The significance is that now the NSC has officially joined California travel arrangers with a pledge to protect the travel consumer. The paperwork for this required registration was a challenge but CST committee members Frank Chang, Sherman Fu, Debra Fong and I successfully negotiated the complex process. This important and required milestone enables the NSC to advertise trips in Bay Area Council media, etc. Many thanks to the members of the CST committee for their dedicated hard work…
On October11, the NSC held a Bocce ball event in Los Gatos which was attended by 10+ persons. I was looking forward to the event, but unfortunately my clutch blew up on the Sunol grade and I had to be towed back home. I understand that the group had a fun and competitive time. See this month’s article and thank you to David Tom for organizing this event.
Six of us hiked the cool redwoods of Huddart Park in San Mateo on Saturday, October 17. This county park gem is yet another amazing example of a precious natural resource so close to us. Thanks to Brian Chan for leading this hike.
Coming up this Nov 7, Greg Wong is leading a group of 20+ persons to Golden Gate Fields in Berkeley for the “NSC Day at the Races”. Lunch and good times at the races are promised and perhaps you might win a wager on a horse.
The Preseason event, to be held Saturday, November 14, at the Mountain View Buddhist Temple Social Hall. It will be a potluck and the theme is centered on the 2010 Winter Games. We will also hold a General Meeting where all members and friends will have a chance to see details on the exciting ski season the Board has planned. Please sign up early, bring a dish to this potluck and get ready for a great time.
We now have only two spots left for the weeklong Whistler trip in January. I can accept signups until November 15 but then I will need to fix the travel list. Contact me at if you have any questions.
Also, the signup deadline is fast approaching for the long weekend trip to Mt Bachelor. Trip Director David Jensen has put together a unique train trip to this high Cascade ski resort on March 24-30. The snow will be great and the company will be even better. Contact David about this exciting trip at .
The trip leaders for Bus Trip 1 to Squaw Valley (both days) on January 8-10, will be Tom Lee and Karen Soo. This year’s trips cost even less than last year’s. If you want to save even more, we still need trip leaders for trip 2, 3 and 4 so please contact David at if interested. Trip leaders get the trip “comped”.
Finally, please visit our updated website at www.niseiskiclub.org to view the new look and functionality that Webmaster Morgan Hua and Trip Director David Jensen have infused. The NSC now has a Facebook site and Twitter connection so you are encouraged to participate in these new means of communication as well.
So we are coming fast to a new NSC ski season. Please sign up and participate in what looks to be yet another great NSC ski year
