It’s September and the ski and snowboard season is only 3-4 months away. I’m currently putting the final touches on the weekend and long weekend ski trips for the 2009-2010 season. This year I’m going to try a few new things.First, we’re going to have 4 weekend trips instead of 3. I’m hoping to fill the bus with members but since we have had difficulty in the past I’m trying to reach out to other clubs and organizations that might want to do a ski trip but are not familiar with the logistics and/or don’t have a large enough group. Right now my list of these groups is small so if you have any suggestions, then please email them to me. The more people we can plan to have on the bus the cheaper the bus trips can be for everyone.

Second, we’re going to be staying at The Sands instead of Circus-Circus. The per night rate is much lower at the Sands and this will help lower the cost of the bus trips.

Third, for the larger, more expensive ski resorts, Squaw and Northstar, we are going to visit them two days in a row. They have plenty of terrain for two days of skiing and the two-day group rates for these resorts will have significant savings on the lift ticket prices.

Finally, the long weekend trip is going to be an overnight train to Mt. Bachelor resort in Bend, Oregon. The train will leave late on Wednesday night and return early the following Tuesday morning. I’m actually planning on going into work on Tuesday when we return. The flyer and sign-up form is available now.

I will have the weekend trip sign up forms ready for the weekend trips for October. In the meantime, the dates of the trips below have been set but the ski destinations have not yet been finalized and will not be until October. I, however, do not expect any changes.

  • January 8 — 10, 2010: 2 days at Squaw Valley; Sands, Reno
