November and the main attraction will be Thanksgiving. Other than Christmas, this is probably my favorite holiday. Yup, this is when we all gather around the feasting table and forget about diets, counting calories, and enjoy a bountiful meal with family. My meal is a simple trifecta: turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing, and I usually bypass the fillers: salad, green bean casserole, and yams.
Where To Ski Over Thanksgiving
The big event in November is Thanksgiving and that brings up plans for heading to the slopes for some Thanksgiving weekend skiing. But, the big question is – will there be enough snow? OK, he’s not exactly a turkey, but a skiing ostrich is awesome! Here are the scheduled/projected opening dates for the Tahoe resorts:
- November 20 – Heavenly Valley
- November 20 – Northstar
- November 20 (projected) – Mt. Rose
- November 25 (projected) – Palisades/Alpine
- December 4 – Kirkwood

The Daylight Savings Dilemma
By now you probably have already set your clocks (backward one hour) for the twice-yearly practice of Daylight Savings Time. But did you know that the House of Representatives passed legislation to end this yearly practice? And now it goes to the Senate to pass the vote before it becomes law. However, an informed source tells me that this bill is DOA in the Senate. So why is this being mentioned in a ski newsletter? Well, glad you asked. Turns out the ski industry is not in favor of this legislation because it would affect the early morning maintenance of lifts, avalanche control, snow making, and grooming. 2027 NSC Ski Week
The deadline for signups for Snowmass has passed and we have 22 members on the trip. Scheduled opening date for Snowmass is November 26, and hopefully El Niño will provide the snowfall for a good ski week at the end of January. Check out the video (https://www.aspensnowmass.com/four-mountains/snowmass) to see what we can expect.
